Call to action: Proposed restructure to university fees

Dear Members

In late June many of you took action against planned government legislation to increase the cost of humanities degrees by contacting your local members and cross bench senators. We were heartened to hear from many of you as you utilised the PHA (Vic & Tas) statement and our sample letters to contact the crossbench senators, and your own local MPs and Senators.

We are once again urging you to make sure our voices are heard. A very short window is open for submissions to the government on this proposed legislation, which can be seen here: https://www.dese.gov.au/job-ready/job-ready-graduates-package-draft-legislation-consultation. Your national PHA will be submitting, supported by branches in other states and territories, and we strongly encourage you to contribute to this consultation. Your submission is due by 5 pm (AEST) 17 August 2020 to Hereform@dese.gov.au

There is no question of the impact this will have on future students of the humanities and existing and future historians. Join us as we advocate for ourselves and our colleagues across Australia.

Yours in history

Alicia Cerreto
